According to the Bulgarian Economy Minister Bogdan Bogdanov, the exports of weapons and military equipment from Bulgaria surged by 200 percent in 2022 as compared to the previous year, reaching approximately EUR1.6-1.7 billion, which is equal to 2% of the country’s GDP.
Almost all weapons products in 2022 were exported through intermediaries to Ukraine.
Further, in 2022, Bulgaria exported to Kyiv mainly ammunition for the old Soviet weapons systems, on which Ukraine largely continues to rely.
Noteworthy, Bulgaria is one of the major producers of ammunition in Europe.
