Indian Army recovers large quantities of illegal arms, ammo in Manipur

The Indian Army recovered a large quantity of illegal arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores from Khujoi Rok Nala near Sadu Kabui Village of Bishnupur district in Manipur on Thursday.

The recovered stores include one 9mm Carbine Machine Gun, one Sten Gun Mk-2, one .303 Rifle, one 9mm pistol, one Anti-riot gun, 14 Grenades, Ammunition and other war-like stores, according to a press release from PRO & spokesperson, Ministry of Defence.

The Army along with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Manipur Police including commandos, launched a joint search operation on Thursday based on specific input about the movement of suspicious individuals and the presence of illegal arms and ammunition, the press releases stated further.

Last month, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against seven accused in connection with the looting of arms and ammunition from the Bishnupur police armoury during the Manipur ethnic violence.

The agency filed its charge sheet before the court of chief judicial magistrate in in Assam.

On August 3 last year, a mob looted more than 300 weapons, 19,800 rounds of ammunition and other accessories from two rooms of the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion headquarters at Naranseina in Bishnupur.
