Indian Army begins process to procure jet pack suit

The Indian Army has started with the test trials of jetpack suits, which will enable its personnel to fly with the aim of enhancing individual mobility in tough terrain. Basically, it is a device that propels the wearer through the air, and uses gas or liquid to propel the user to fly.

Earlier in January, the Indian Army had come out with a Request for Proposal (tender) for 48 jetpack suits with modern propulsion systems including Turbine engines, Electric and Hybrid systems. The tender issued is under emergency procurement through the fast-track procedure (FTP) under the ‘buy Indian’ category. These JetPack suits will help increase the tactical mobility of Army soldiers to reach forward posts easily.

British company Gravity Industries and Bengaluru based Absolute Composites are among those that will be evaluated by the Indian Army for procurement.
