BrahMos Cruise Missiles delivery to Philippines to begin by 2023-end

BrahMos Aerospace is set to begin the deleveries of the BrahMos cruise missiles to the Philippines by the end of 2023.

Earlier, in January this year, the Philippines closed a $374 million deal to acquire the shore based anti-ship variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. Besides, the country is also reportedly considering a follow-on order of around $300 million.

The BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) is an Indo-Russian multinational aerospace and defence corporation, with core manufacturing concentrations in Cruise missiles.

Headquartered in New Delhi, India, it was founded as a joint venture between the India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia.

The company currently manufactures BrahMos missile with a range of 300 km and traveling at speeds of Mach 4. It is currently developing BrahMos-II, a hypersonic cruise missile.

About BrahMos Cruise missile

BrahMos supersonic cruise missile (also designated as PJ-10) is a short-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.

The missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound. The per unit cost of the missile is expected to be approximately USD 5 million.
