Indian Army expresses interest in the Maruti Jimny

The Indian Army have expressed its interest in buying of Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny.

As of now, the company Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is still studying their requirements in terms of specifications and requirements, and will be making a final decision once it is done.

Also, the company has not started the sale of Maruti Jimy yet, but it is on the horizon once that happens. The launch of  the vehichle is scheduled for June 7th, 2023.

To be noted, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) of India has recently approved the Indian Army’s request to introduce new General Service (GS) 4X4 light vehicles.

The Defence Service wants to replace the Gypsy with a small off-road vehicle that can be used in dangerous hilly terrain.

Further, it aims to replace it with a soft-top vehicle as it offers greater adaptability and makes it easier for soldiers to carry weapons like rifles and communication gear. And,to this extent procurement of Jimny seems a good choice. The expected price range is somewhere between Rs. 9.00 – 11.00 Lakh.

Notably, over 35,000 units of Gypsy have been delivered to the Indian Army over the last two decades.
