Lloyd Austin, the United States US Defence Secretary, will be visiting India in early June to advance discussions on bilateral defence cooperation.
The visit, scheduled for June 4-5, 2023 comes as India-US seek to enhance their strategic collaboration under the framework of the ‘US-India Major Defence Partnership’.
Further, the visit presents an opportunity to further bolstering the defence strategic ties while also strengthening the operational collaboration between the US and Indian militaries, and acceleration of defence innovation and promotion of industrial co-operation.
Parallel to this visit, Prime Minister Modi will be travelling to the US for a state visit from June 21-24, where he will be hosted by US President Joe Biden at the White House.
Notably, in recent years the defence ties between India and the US have witnessed a steady growth. Rather, India has procured defence equipment worth $20 billion since 2008 from US.
