Successful training launch of Agni-1 ballistic missile

A successful training launch of a Medium-Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-1 was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha on June 01, 2023.

The missile is a proven system, capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision. The user training launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile.

About Agni-1 Missile

Agni-1 is a medium-range ballistic missile that was developed by Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited, under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.

It is a single-stage missile that was developed after the Kargil War to fill the gap between the 250 km (160-mile) range of the Prithvi-II missile and the 2,500 km (1,600-mile) range of the Agni-II.

It was first launched from a road mobile launcher at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Wheeler Island, on 25 January 2002. As of now, less than 75 launchers have been deployed. 

The unit cost of the missile is around Rs 25 crore ($3.1 million) to Rs 35 crore ($4.4 Million) approx
