Indian Armed Forces set to place 2500 logistical support-related orders worth Rs 50K Cr

The three Indian Armed Forces are set to place logistical support-related orders which are expected to be worth between Rs 45,000-50,000 crore.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), India has issued two Request for Information (RFIs) in this regard.

The first RFI issued is for procurement of approximate 2500 Truck 2.5 Ton General Service 4×4 for use by the Indian Army.

The vehicle will be used as a General Service load carrier with a payload capacity of 2.5 Tons in hills, high altitude, cross country, plains & desert terrain, and different climatic conditions as prevalent in the country.

The second RFI issued by the MoD, India, intends to procure approximate 5000 Lorry 5/7.5 Ton General Service 4×4 for use by the three services.

The vehicle will be used as a General Service load carrier with a payload capacity of 5/7.5 Ton i.e., 5 Ton in hills, high altitude, cross country & desert terrain and 7.5 Ton in plains.

Further, the vehicle should be provided with 4×4 drive and be capable of operating in different terrain and climatic conditions prevalent in the country.

Besides, the platform should facilitate modification for other uses including troop carriage, containerization and for specialist roles.

It is being anticipated that there are three possible front-runners for the orders: TATA Advanced Systems (part of the TATA group), Bharat Forge (part of the Kalyani Group) and Ashok Leyland.

The deals are likely to be completed over a period of 4-5 years.
