Indian Navy gets third Missile Cum Ammunition barge

The Indian Navy has received the delivery of third Missile Cum Ammunition Barge of the series LSAM 9 (Yard 77), on 22 Nov 23 at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai for INS Tunir.

The induction ceremony was presided over by Cmde Ashish Sehgal Command Refit Officer, Western Naval Command.

Noteworthy,  the contract for construction and delivery of 8 x Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge was signed by the Indian MoD with SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, an MSME, on 19 Feb 21.

The Barge has been built under the classification rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) with a service life of 30 years.

With all major and auxiliary equipment/ systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, the Missile Cum Ammunition Barge is proud flag bearer of “Make in India” initiatives of Ministry of Defence.

The induction of the Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge will boost the operational commitments of the Indian Navy by facilitating Transportation, Embarkation and Disembarkation of articles / ammunition to Indian Naval Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.

Also, worth mentioning that these Barges are indigenously designed and built under relevant Naval Rules and Regulations of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).

The model testing of the Barge during design stage was undertaken at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
