Saurabh Kumar appointed as next Ambassador of India to Belgium with concurrent accreditation to EU

Shri Saurabh Kumar, presently Secretary in the Ministry, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Belgium.

Further, he will also be accredited as Ambassador of India to the European Union.

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

About Mr.  Saurabh Kumar

Mr. Saurabh Kumar is a career diplomat and served as Ambassador of India to Myanmar (2019-21) and Iran (2015-18), before taking up his last assignment as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs on 1 January 2022.

In New Delhi he handled China related work in different capacities- as Under Secretary (1993-95) and as Director (2004-7), and that related to Pakistan (1995-97).

Besides, he was Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism and Policy Planning) and Joint Secretary in the National Security Council Secretariat between 2012-15.

Abroad, he served in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Fiji Islands in different capacities, and was the Deputy Chief of Mission in China (2007-8) and Italy (2008 -12).

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Saurabh Kumar joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1989.
