Ahead of the seven-phased Lok Sabha polls beginning on April 19, 2024 the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its long-awaited manifesto titled ‘Modi ki guarantee’ Sankalp Patra.
The manifesto outlines a roadmap to transform India into a developed country by 2047, including a pledge to introduce a ‘one nation, one election’ system and a common electoral roll.
The document also features a range of measures aimed at empowering youth, women, farmers, and the underprivileged.
Further, the document also highlighted that the party’s primary focus would be on enhancing the nation’s social, physical, and digital infrastructure.
As for the defence segment, creation of military theatre commands to improve capabilities of armed forces and expansion of defence footprint across ‘strategic locations’ to protect security interests of the Indian Ocean Region figure prominently in BJP manifesto.
BJP has stated that the government created a chief of defence staff position for better coordination and will establish joint commands for more efficient operations.
It has also promised to improve border infrastructure, including smart fencing.
Further, the manifesto also mentioned that the Government will prepare a strong framework to further encourage startups in government procurement including defence.
Also, under the Make in India programme, manufacturing has emerged as a major economic sector with good success in electronics, defence, mobile, automobiles and more.
And, the BJP in the manifesto further promised that will work towards making Bharat (India) a global manufacturing hub and enhance employment in these crucial sectors.
It also promises to vastly expand domestic defence manufacturing and exports of Made in Bharat defence equipment.
This effort will be facilitated by accelerating indigenisation in major Air and Land Equipment Platforms.
