The State Department of United States (US) has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States of a F-16 Standard Spare and Repair Parts and related equipment for an estimated cost of $220 million.
Noteworthy, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) has requested to buy standard spare and repair parts, components, consumables, and accessories for F-16 aircraft; US Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
Notably, this proposed sale is consistent with U.S. law and policy as expressed in Public Law 96-8.
This proposed sale serves US national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability.
Further, the proposed sale will help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance, and economic progress in the region.
Besides, the proposed sale will improve the recipient’s ability to meet current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of the recipient’s fleet of F-16 aircraft.
The recipient will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
This equipment will be transferred from US Air Force stock.
Also, there are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US Government or contractor representatives to the recipient.
