India extends $14 Bn Line of Credit to 42 African Union Nations for defence equipment & other traditional sectors

India has extended approx. a USD 14 billion Line of Credit to 42 nations in the African Union to facilitate the procurement of Indian defence equipment, besides offering them support in traditional sectors like roads, ports, and railways.

Both India and Africa see a big potential in defence partnership, which they believe will grow fast. Further, with the aim to empower African Nations to indigenously meet their defence requirements, India has offered commitment to Africa with regards to sharing expertise and knowledge in defence manufacturing, research and development.

Notably, India also recently hosted the first edition of ‘India-Africa Army Chiefs’ Conclave’; wherein the Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh had invited many African companies to explore Indian defence equipment & technologies to fulfill their security needs. The Conclave was attended by Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande and Chiefs & representatives of 31 African nations, along with other civil and defence dignitaries.
