Chandrayaan 3 lander separates from propulsion module

The first de-orbit manoeuvre for the Lander module of Chandrayaan 3 was successfully conducted.

Now the orbit of Lander Module is 113 km x 157 km.

The Indian space agency ISRO has scheduled to conduct a second deboosting operation during the early hours on Sunday. 

The spacecraft is expected to reach the Moon in approximately 40 days, and ISRO is targeting to make a soft landing on the moon on August 23.

This forthcoming event follows a series of meticulously planned orbit-raising manoeuvres that have propelled the spacecraft on its trajectory. 

Noteworthy, one of the defining moments in the mission occurred on August 17, as the propulsion module and the lander module of Chandrayaan 3 successfully separated after spending 34 days in tandem.

The propulsion module’s primary function was to facilitate the journey of the lander module from its launch vehicle injection to a 100-km orbit around the Moon.  

Chandrayaan 3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.
